Gene Rye hits three home runs in one inning

The record for the most home runs hit in a single inning occurred in Double-A baseball rather than the Major Leagues. On August 6, 1930, Gene Rye of the Waco Cubs achieved this feat while playing against the Beaumont Exporters in the Texas League.

During the bottom of the eighth inning, the Cubs scored 18 runs. Rye hit a solo home run, followed by a second home run with one runner on base, and concluded the inning with a grand slam. Through these hits, Rye reached a total of 12 bases. Although Rye was signed by the Red Sox the following year, a broken wrist forced him into early retirement from baseball.
