General Dynamics delivers first XM30 Wolf prototype to U.S. Army

General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) has delivered the first XM30 “Wolf” prototype to the U.S. Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. This delivery marks the beginning of the field-testing phase for a competition valued at approximately $45 billion to replace the M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle, which has been in service since 1981.

The XM30 program is the sixth attempt by the Army since the 1980s to replace the Bradley, following previous programs that failed due to cost and complexity. To avoid these issues, the XM30 was designed using digital engineering tools and features a Modular Open Systems Architecture. This design is intended to allow for easier integration of new software, hardware, and technologies without requiring physical redesigns.

GDLS and American Rheinmetall Vehicles are the two finalists in this competition. Both companies are currently developing and testing prototypes in Michigan, with the U.S. Army expected to select a winner in 2027. Additional prototypes are scheduled to be sent to Fort Hood, Texas, for further evaluation.
