General Fusion debuts on Nasdaq as first publicly listed fusion company
General Fusion Group Ltd. began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker GFUZ, becoming the first publicly listed company focused on nuclear fusion. The debut share price opened at $12.85 and rose about 40% by midday, reflecting strong investor interest.
The company entered the market with roughly $150 million in cash, combining $30 million from the SPAC merger and $108 million from private investors. Its magnetized target fusion (MTF) approach, using a lithium‑lined chamber, targets a breakeven demonstration by around 2028 and a first commercial power plant by 2035. General Fusion also announced a framework agreement to advance deployment of its technology in Italy.
Founded in Burnaby, British Columbia, the firm has raised over $600 million privately over two decades and previously cut 25% of its workforce in 2025. The Nasdaq listing provides the fusion sector its first real‑time market price signal, allowing investors to bet on the commercial viability of fusion energy.
