Health Minister Klekovski announces hospital upgrades in Kičevo and Struga

North Macedonia’s Minister of Health, Sasho Klekovski, conducted a working visit to healthcare institutions in the southwestern region, focusing on upgrading existing facilities while planning for new hospital constructions.

In Kičevo, the General Hospital is receiving significant upgrades to its medical equipment, including digital X-ray, mammography, 3D/4D ultrasound, and an immunological analyzer for tumor markers and hormones. To address staffing shortages, the ministry has permanently employed four specialists and four general practitioners, with five more specialists in the final stages of recruitment. While a new hospital project is a long-term goal, officials emphasized that current services must be strengthened immediately.

In Struga, the Specialized Hospital for Nephrology is being modernized with new dialysis machines and anesthesiology equipment. The facility serves as a regional center for nephrology and urology, managing thousands of hemodialysis sessions and outpatient examinations annually.

In Kërçovë, similar efforts are underway to provide new diagnostic tools and staff to ensure patients can receive treatment locally without traveling to Skopje. The Minister noted that funding is being secured for various regional projects, including clinical reconstructions and new hospital facilities.
