General Hospital marks 16,000th episode with new character tribute and cast reunion
ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital celebrated its 16,000th episode on July 13, a milestone that surpasses the long‑standing record previously held by Guiding Light. The occasion featured a large on‑set cast photo and a cake‑cutting ceremony.
The episode also introduced Dean Geyer as surgeon Dr. Tristan Roberts, a role named in honor of the late Tristan Rogers, who famously portrayed Robert Scorpio. Geyer, a South African‑Australian actor, said the naming was “a tribute to a much‑loved character.” The debut coincided with the return of Steve Burton, who reprised his role as Jason Morgan after a brief absence.
The celebration gathered many long‑time stars, including Finola Hughes, Maurice Benard, Laura Wright and others, while several regulars were absent. The milestone underscores General Hospital’s status as one of the longest‑running series in American television history.
