General Ioan Sîrbu launches biography at the Romanian Academy
Major General and physician Ioan Sîrbu recently launched his biography, “De la Piscuri la New York și înapoi: Anatomia unui destin,” at the Romanian Academy. The event, held at the “I. H. Rădulescu” Amphitheater, was attended by a diverse group of officials, medical professionals, military personnel, and academics.
The book details Sîrbu’s life journey from a humble upbringing in the village of Piscuri, Gorj County, to becoming an internationally recognized specialist in implantology. After working as a turner and a medical non-commissioned officer, Sîrbu began medical school at age 33, eventually graduating with a perfect grade average.
A significant portion of his career involved studying at New York University under implantology pioneer Professor Leonard Linkow. Despite opportunities in the United States, Sîrbu returned to Romania to advance the field locally. The biography also touches upon his tenure at the Central Military Hospital and his efforts to reform promotion systems for young military doctors.
