General La Madrid festival faces controversy over agrochemical container use

During the 115th anniversary celebrations of La Colina in General La Madrid, Argentina, a controversy arose after images surfaced showing a 20-liter container previously used for phytosanitary products being used during the first 'Fiesta del Chorizo a la Pomarola'.

The container was observed in the central kitchen area where approximately 1,000 sausages were being prepared. Organizers admitted to using the jug to transport water for cleaning and for washing vegetables, such as peppers and onions, citing a lack of alternative containers. While organizers claimed the vessel had undergone a triple wash, the use of such containers violates national and provincial regulations, which mandate that empty agrochemical containers be recycled through specific systems like CampoLimpio to prevent cross-contamination risks.

The local municipality has issued a statement acknowledging the error, assuming responsibility for event supervision, and offering apologies. Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
