General Mills and Ziploc launch resealable Cheerios packaging

General Mills has partnered with Ziploc to introduce Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, a new packaging format featuring a resealable bag inside traditional cereal boxes. The innovation aims to address long-standing consumer frustrations regarding cereal freshness and ease of use.

According to General Mills, approximately 90 percent of cereal shoppers currently take extra steps to preserve freshness, such as using clips, folding the bag, or transferring contents to other containers. The new design incorporates a built-in pour spout that opens partially for easy dispensing and can be securely resealed using Ziploc technology.

The product is initially available exclusively through Walmart.com for both Original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios. A broader rollout to other national retailers is expected in the coming months. The new packaging is being manufactured in Buffalo, New York, the original production site for Cheerios.
