General Motors reports record Q3 revenue amid profit outlook concerns

General Motors reported third-quarter revenue of approximately $50 billion, surpassing analyst expectations. Adjusted earnings per share for the quarter reached $3.70, exceeding the consensus estimate of $3.63. Net income attributable to stockholders rose to $3.34 billion, up from $1.33 billion in the previous year.

Despite the strong quarterly performance, GM shares fell as the company narrowed its full-year 2026 adjusted EBIT forecast to a range of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, down from a previous range of $14 billion to $16 billion. The company also revised its adjusted earnings per share guidance for 2026 to a range of $12.75 to $13.75, which was below analyst expectations.

Management cited rising costs, including approximately $2 billion in expected commodity inflation for 2026 involving steel, aluminum, copper, and memory chips, as primary concerns. Additionally, GM has absorbed $11.2 billion in EV-related charges from the second half of 2025 through Q3 2026.

To return capital to shareholders, GM authorized a new $20 billion multiyear share repurchase program following the completion of a prior $6 billion program. The company also raised its 2026 adjusted automotive free cash flow forecast to a range of $11.5 billion to $12.5 billion.
