General Motors expands Brazilian electrified vehicle production
General Motors is expanding its electrified vehicle production in Brazil. The Chevrolet Captiva PHEV is scheduled to begin assembly in November at the Ceará Automotive Plant (PACE) in Horizonte. This model will be the first plug-in hybrid produced by the brand in the country.
The Captiva PHEV follows the Captiva EV, which entered production at the same facility in June. Both models are derived from the Wuling Starlight S, a product of the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. The Captiva EV is currently positioned as an entry-level electric SUV in the Brazilian market.
Additionally, Chevrolet is developing a new compact sedan with a unique visual identity through the SGMW joint venture. This project aims to provide more accessible electrified options for the South American market, potentially including both electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
