General Motors expands Ramos Arizpe plant, driving major investment in Coahuila

General Motors announced that its Ramos Arizpe manufacturing complex in Coahuila will produce the Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet Groove for the Mexican domestic market. The rollout will involve an output of about 80,000 vehicles and is part of a broader investment of roughly $1 billion that was earlier announced to shift production from other countries to Mexico.

State Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas said the project will raise private investment in Coahuila to more than 160 billion pesos and generate roughly 70,000 new jobs, adding that the state already hosts over 170 foreign‑owned companies. Regional business leaders, including the president of Coparmex Coahuila Sureste, highlighted the multiplier effect for suppliers, logistics, hospitality and small‑medium enterprises, noting the presence of more than 150 auto‑parts providers in the Southeast region.

Economic officials such as Secretary of Economy Luis Olivares Martínez and GM Mexico CEO Francisco Garza emphasized the stability, skilled labor and supportive ecosystem that made Coahuila attractive for the expansion.
