General Motors faces sales gap due to removal of CarPlay
General Motors is facing significant sales challenges due to its decision to remove Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its new electric vehicles. Data suggests that consumer preference for integrated smartphone connectivity is heavily influencing purchasing decisions.
A comparison between the Chevrolet Blazer EV, which lacks CarPlay, and the Honda Prologue EV, which uses the same General Motors platform but retains CarPlay and Android Auto, highlights a growing sales gap. While the vehicles are nearly identical, the Honda Prologue EV has seen significantly higher sales volumes, outperforming the Blazer EV by 166% in the first half of 2026.
General Motors previously stated that its move to phase out CarPlay was intended to protect user data and allow the company to maintain control over the digital customer relationship through its own Android Automotive OS-based system. However, the market response suggests that the absence of these familiar infotainment tools is a major deterrent for buyers.
