General Motors invests in Detroit design education and U.S. manufacturing

General Motors is expanding its involvement in Detroit’s creative and industrial landscape through new investments and manufacturing shifts. The company has announced a $250,000 grant to the College for Creative Studies (CCS) to support youth and precollege programs, focusing on STEAM education and career exploration in art and design. This latest contribution brings GM’s total support for the institution to over $18 million.

Alongside this educational initiative, GM has launched the ‘Art + Cars’ exhibit at its Entrance One space in Detroit, featuring automotive concept vehicles alongside works by local artists.

On the industrial front, GM is increasing its domestic footprint as part of a broader strategy to expand U.S. production capacities. CEO Mary Barra stated that the company expects to spend more than $16 billion on manufacturing, research, and development within the United States in 2026. This shift includes relocating certain models from Mexico or China to American factories, a move aligned with current U.S. industrial policies.
