General Motors to launch its own in‑vehicle AI assistant later this year

General Motors announced that it will roll out a proprietary artificial‑intelligence system for its vehicles before the end of 2026. The assistant will be deeply integrated with vehicle functions, combining conversational AI with OnStar data and vehicle telemetry to enable features such as predictive maintenance, child‑seat presets, climate control and infotainment commands. GM says the new system will go beyond the capabilities of Google’s Gemini assistant by using data that remains owned by GM. The company is working with an undisclosed major language‑model provider to develop the technology, and the AI’s name has not been revealed. Anna Santos, GM’s director of voice and AI product management, described the launch as the start of a broader AI strategy for the automaker. The rollout is expected to be available across GM’s 2022‑plus model lineup worldwide.
