General Motors unveils new truck interface with CarPlay integration

General Motors has unveiled a redesigned user interface for its 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. This update marks a significant strategic shift, as the automaker will now allow Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to coexist alongside its native software via a picture-in-picture or split-screen layout. This move follows previous customer backlash regarding GM’s decision to phase out phone mirroring in its electric vehicle lineup.

The new interface utilizes up to 60 inches of combined screen real estate, including a driver instrument cluster, a central touchscreen, and a passenger display. Key features include high-contrast graphics, 3D driving visualizations for the Super Cruise driver-assistance system, and customizable quick-access menus. The system is designed to reduce driver distraction by providing larger tap zones and keeping critical vehicle data, such as trailering metrics, visible even when smartphone apps are active.

Additionally, GM confirmed that the new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 engines in these models will replace the traditional physical oil dipstick with a digital gauge. The software overhaul is expected to debut in these models later in 2026 and will eventually expand across GM’s broader portfolio of gas, diesel, and electric vehicles.
