Military prosecutors seek life sentence for General Philémon Yav
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the military prosecutor has requested life imprisonment for Lieutenant-General Philémon Yav and his co-defendant, Issa Shauri. The charges include insurrection, kidnapping, murder, rape, and extortion. Civil parties are seeking 24 billion CFA francs in damages. The defense has contested the trial, arguing that the court lacks jurisdiction because the alleged crimes occurred in the Central African Republic, and that the statute of limitations for the 2002 incidents has expired.
