General Pico joins international ‘City of Girls and Boys’ project

The municipality of General Pico has officially joined the international project ‘The City of Girls and Boys,’ an initiative promoted by the Francesco Tonuccia Association and the Institute of Cognitive Science and Technologies of the National Research Council of Rome.

During the Expo Infancia y Adolescencia, Mayor Fernanda Alonso signed the agreement, committing the city to establish a local laboratory. This laboratory will follow international guidelines to promote child participation in urban planning and development. The project also focuses on fostering free play and childhood autonomy in public spaces. Through this membership, General Pico joins a network of over 300 municipalities across 15 countries, gaining access to technical training and international exchange.

In her address at the convention, Mayor Alonso emphasized the importance of adult attention, urging parents to reduce screen time to better engage with their children. She highlighted various local municipal strategies, including the ‘Agenda 6360’ for inclusion, socio-educational programs, and the work of the Local Council of Children and Adolescents.
