General Ramiz Dreković, Bosnian Army Commander, Dies at 69

Ramiz Dreković, a retired brigadier general of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, died on 28 July 2024 at the Clinical Center in Sarajevo at the age of 69. Born on 10 May 1957 in Tutin, he completed his military education at the Belgrade Military Academy and served in the Yugoslav People’s Army before leaving in September 1991. At the outbreak of the Bosnian war he joined the Territorial Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, later becoming commander of the 5th Corps headquartered in Bihać and subsequently commander of the 4th Corps based in Mostar. He also served as head of the political affairs office of the Army General Staff. Dreković was honored with several military and civil awards for his role in defending Bosnia and Herzegovina’s independence and territorial integrity. He was a prominent member and former president of a citizens’ association representing the Sandžak community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
