General Ratko Mladic to be examined by Serbian neuropsychiatrist on June 29

Former Bosnian Serb army chief General Ratko Mladic, detained in the International Criminal Court’s prison in The Hague since 2024, has been visited regularly by his family via video calls. His son Darko Mladic announced that a Serbian neuro‑psychiatrist will travel to The Hague on 29 June to assess the general’s health after multiple brain injuries left him immobile and largely unable to speak.

The family reports a slight improvement but stresses the importance of daily contact with the general, who is surrounded by foreign guards. Earlier requests to transfer him to Serbia for treatment were rejected by ICC President Graciela Gutiérrez‑Santana, who said his condition is serious but not acutely worsening.
