General Santos City resumes face-to-face classes after earthquake

Face-to-face classes have resumed in General Santos City following a two-month suspension caused by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on June 8, 2026. While some parents favor in-person instruction over modular learning for better educational outcomes, others have expressed concerns regarding the structural integrity of school buildings.

Under Executive Order No. 48, schools must now comply with specific earthquake safety protocols, including structural integrity clearances, building occupancy limits, and evacuation measures. Parents have also called for enhanced earthquake preparedness, including regular drills and training for teachers and parents to ensure appropriate responses during future seismic events.
