General Sports Authority issues new professional sports regulations

The General Sports Authority has issued new regulations to organize sports professions. Under Decision No. 8 of 2026, all sports entities—including clubs, federations, academies, and commercial or non-commercial centers—must comply with these rules. Individuals practicing sports professions are granted a one-year grace period to regularize their status.

Practitioners must obtain an official professional license from the Authority, valid for two years and renewable. Regulated professions include coaching staff, referees, VAR officials, medical and psychological support personnel, technical management, performance analysts, talent scouts, team administrators, sports media producers, and player/coach agents.

To qualify for a license, applicants must meet specific educational and training requirements, demonstrate physical and professional fitness, and possess a clean criminal record regarding crimes of honor or integrity. The regulations also mandate adherence to professional ethics, fair play, confidentiality, and anti-doping laws. Licenses may be suspended or revoked for professional misconduct, providing false documentation, or involvement in sports betting.
