General Võ Nguyên Giáp emphasized importance of history in education

Memoirs from educator and poet Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Dung recount her personal interactions with General Võ Nguyên Giáp. Following encouragement from writer Đào Vũ, Nguyễn visited the General at his Hanoi residence in 1997 to present an article she had written about him.

During their meeting, the General emphasized the vital importance of history in education. He noted that while schools teach history, they must go deeper to ensure the younger generation understands the connection between the past, present, and future to better serve in fields such as politics, culture, and science.
