Generali to cut 800 jobs and close three German offices
Generali has announced a major restructuring of its German subsidiary, which includes cutting approximately 800 jobs—about 9% of its local workforce—and closing offices in Aachen, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart by 2030.
The company plans to consolidate its operations into five regional centers located in Munich, Cologne, Karlsruhe, Hamburg, and Saarbrücken, while maintaining specialized sites in Frankfurt, Leipzig, and Berlin. Employees from the closing locations will be relocated to Cologne, Munich, and Karlsruhe to improve collaboration and reduce real estate costs amid increasing hybrid work trends.
Despite reporting an operating result of over one billion euros in Germany for 2025, the insurer is shifting its focus toward digital transformation. Generali intends to invest hundreds of millions of euros into modernizing IT systems, digitalization, and artificial intelligence to enhance competitiveness and profitability. The workforce reduction will be managed through voluntary early retirement, natural staff turnover, and other voluntary measures, with a job guarantee in place until the end of 2030.
