Generalist AI reaches $3 billion valuation after $200 million funding extension
Robotics startup Generalist AI, Inc. has reached a $3 billion valuation following a nearly $200 million funding extension led by 8VC. This new capital brings the total funding for the current round to approximately $600 million, following a $400 million Series B announced in June.
Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind and Boston Dynamics researchers Peter Florence, Andy Zeng, and Andrew Barry, the company is developing AI foundation models designed to power various types of robots. Their recently debuted Gen-1.5 model aims to allow robots to learn new tasks through short video demonstrations—ranging from 3 to 12 seconds—rather than requiring manual programming or extensive neural network fine-tuning.
Investors view the company as a potential leader in the pursuit of a ‘ChatGPT moment’ for robotics, where machines can perform a wide range of general tasks without specific training for each one. The startup has already received backing from notable entities including Nvidia Corp., Bezos Expeditions, and Radical Ventures.
