Generalitat de València to challenge Spanish coastal boundary ruling
The Generalitat de València has authorized its legal department to file an administrative appeal against a decree from the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. The ministry's order, dated July 30, 2026, approves the delimitation of the maritime-terrestrial public domain along a 2,249-meter stretch of coastline between Vinaròs and Benicarló in the province of Castellón.
The regional government argues that the ministerial resolution does not comply with the law. Marc García Manzana, the Director General of Coasts, Ports, and Airports, stated that the administration will defend affected residents and legal certainty. He emphasized that the ruling impacts more than just map boundaries, noting that it involves homes, family heritage, and the potential for individuals to lose their residences.
The Generalitat had previously expressed opposition to the delimitation, submitting an unfavorable report during the hearing process on March 10, 2026, and filing various allegations to justify its stance.
