Monnegre Green Corridor to include exclusive emergency access road

The Generalitat has announced plans to incorporate an exclusive access road for emergency vehicles within the future Monnegre Green Corridor. This infrastructure will run parallel to a planned cycling path and is designed to facilitate rapid response from ambulances, firefighters, and security forces during natural disasters or crises.

Raúl Mérida, the Commissioner for Recovery, stated that recent extreme weather events have highlighted the necessity of infrastructure that improves the ecological state of riverbeds while enabling coordinated emergency responses. The road will remain closed to general traffic and will only be activated when emergency circumstances require it.

The renaturalization project, which has entered the public information phase, involves cleaning 20 kilometers of the Monnegre riverbed from Tibi to El Campello. This includes removing invasive reeds to improve hydrological capacity and reduce fire risks, utilizing nature-based solutions to increase regional resilience against extreme weather phenomena.
