Generalitat Valenciana allocates funds for elite athletes and heritage

The Generalitat Valenciana has announced two distinct funding initiatives within the Valencian Community.

First, the Second Vice-Presidency and Presidency Department has awarded academic-sports grants to 485 elite athletes for the 2026 period. The total investment of 500,000 euros aims to help athletes balance high-level competition and training with their academic studies. Individual grants range from 750 to 1,750 euros, determined by the athletes' proven sporting results. To qualify, recipients must be elite athletes under 26 years of age, enrolled in recognized secondary or university education.

Separately, approximately 550,000 euros has been allocated to five municipalities in the interior of Alicante—Benifallim, Alcoleja, Penàguila, Confrides, and L'Orxa—to rehabilitate historical heritage and public spaces. These funds target areas at risk of depopulation, supporting the conservation of emblematic buildings and the renovation of public areas to boost local tourism and economic activity. For example, Alcoleja will receive nearly 150,000 euros to repair the ermita de la Verge dels Desemparats de Beniafé.
