Generalitat Valenciana appeals to Supreme Court over school funding competencies

The Generalitat Valenciana has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against recent rulings by the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV). The legal challenge seeks to overturn decisions that upheld competency delegations signed by the previous 'Consell del Botànic' administration while it was in a caretaker capacity.

The dispute centers on whether these delegations, approved in July 2023, exceeded the ordinary business of a caretaker government. The Generalitat argues that these actions committed approximately 65 million euros toward the 'Pla Edificant' program, intended for the reform and maintenance of educational centers.

As a result of the current legal impasse, several school renovation projects in Albalat dels Sorells, Burjassot, and Mislata have been delayed. For instance, the CEIP Fernando de los Ríos in Burjassot faces a pending reform valued at over 2.3 million euros. Local officials have criticized the administration for the procedural delays affecting school infrastructure.
