Generation Z faces rising financial anxiety despite strong savings

Despite showing strong financial indicators, Generation Z is experiencing significant levels of financial anxiety. Data from Vanguard indicates that 47% of Gen Z workers are on track for successful retirement, a higher percentage than the 40% recorded for baby boomers. Additionally, Gen Z members tend to begin investing earlier, at an average age of 19, which is six years ahead of Millennials.

However, this demographic faces intense psychological pressure due to rising living costs and economic instability. Concerns include the impact of artificial intelligence on job security, the increasing difficulty of entering the housing market, and the rising cost of living. In the United States, housing prices have risen by an average of more than 45% over the last five years according to Zillow, while Eurostat data shows EU housing prices increased by 60.5% between 2010 and the second quarter of 2025.

This paradox is characterized by individuals who meet significant savings milestones but remain paralyzed by fear of future instability. For example, some young professionals have managed to save over $100,000 through multiple jobs and strict budgeting, yet still report deep-seated fears regarding their long-term financial security.
