Generation Z protests across Europe over economic instability
A wave of youth-led protests is spreading across various European nations as Generation Z challenges established political orders. Driven by rising living costs, housing crises, and limited economic prospects, young people are demanding stronger state intervention and institutional accountability.
In France, demonstrations have focused on educational system failures and university capacity. In Italy, protests target high inflation, while in Spain and Portugal, the housing crisis is the primary driver, with some citizens reporting that rent consumes up to 70 percent of their income. In Germany, youth alliances have organized calls for further demonstrations.
In the Balkans, these movements are translating into significant political shifts. In Serbia, the Student List, which emerged from protests against corruption, has achieved a major electoral victory, challenging long-standing leadership. Similar shifts are noted in Montenegro and Hungary, signaling a growing dissatisfaction with traditional political structures across the continent.
