Generation Z reshapes gender norms and embraces loud budgeting

A recent Brazilian survey found that 58.4% of Generation Z respondents identify outside traditional heterosexual and cisgender norms. Within this group, 57.2% reject heterosexual orientation and 10.1% hold gender‑diverse identities such as trans, non‑binary, agender or fluid. Bisexuality accounts for 31% of non‑heterosexual orientations, while pan‑sexuality, asexuality and queer identities are also rising. The same cohort reports heightened anxiety, with 33.5% feeling nervous about the future, 21.2% feeling lost and 40% expressing low comfort with adult life.

Separately, a “loud budgeting” trend is gaining traction among Generation Z, encouraging open discussion of salaries, financial limits and spending habits. The term, coined by TikTok creator Lukas Battle as a foil to “quiet luxury,” has spread to mainstream conversations. According to a Better Money Habits 2026 report, 42% of Gen Z are transparent with family and friends about budget constraints, 40% have cut restaurant visits and 24% decline social invitations to manage costs. Around 60% now talk openly about money with peers, and 75% actively seek low‑cost or free activities when socialising.
