Generation Z trends in Germany reveal loneliness and meat consumption
Recent studies in Germany provide new insights into the lifestyle and well-being of Generation Z. The 2026 Youth Trend Study, conducted by the Institute for Generational Research in collaboration with the University of Augsburg, highlights a significant issue regarding mental health: many young people in Germany report feeling strikingly lonely, with young men being particularly affected.
Regarding dietary habits, a survey commissioned by the Central Association of the German Poultry Industry (ZDG) challenges the stereotype that Generation Z is predominantly vegetarian or vegan. The study found that approximately 83 percent of respondents aged 16 to 29 consume meat. Only about 11 percent identify as vegetarian or vegan, while 30 percent describe themselves as flexitarian. According to ZDG Managing Director Wolfgang Schleicher, meat remains mainstream among this demographic, driven by factors such as taste, protein needs, price, and ease of preparation.
