Generation Z turns to analog tools to combat digital fatigue
Despite massive corporate investments in artificial intelligence and digital tools, younger employees are increasingly returning to analog methods for work organization. Generation Z and Millennial workers are frequently opting for physical tools such as notebooks, pens, planners, and sticky notes to manage their tasks.
This shift is attributed to digital fatigue rather than nostalgia. The constant influx of electronic messages, notifications from platforms like Microsoft Teams, and continuous screen time have led many to seek simpler ways to organize their work. Research from Quill indicates that 94 percent of Gen Z and Millennial respondents prefer physically crossing off completed tasks on paper over clicking a digital checkbox. Additionally, 56 percent of Gen Z employees would prefer leaving a sticky note for a colleague rather than sending a direct digital message, suggesting a desire for balance amidst constant digital connectivity.
