Generation Z Workers Favor AI Managers Over Human Bosses

A 2025 study commissioned by EduBirdie found that about 9% of Generation Z respondents would prefer an artificial‑intelligence system to act as their supervisor instead of a human manager. The same survey showed that 69% of the young workers already interact politely with AI tools such as ChatGPT, using phrases like “please” and “thank you.”

Respondents cited perceived fairness, neutrality and reduced intimidation as the main reasons for preferring an AI boss, suggesting a broader dissatisfaction with traditional leadership styles. Experts note that AI is unlikely to replace human managers in the near term, but leaders who fail to incorporate AI assistance may fall behind in productivity and decision‑making.

The findings highlight a shift in workplace expectations among younger employees, who value clear feedback, mental‑health support and transparent decision processes, and see AI as a potential means to achieve those standards.
