Generative AI adoption accelerates in global banking sector
The banking industry is undergoing a structural shift as generative artificial intelligence moves from experimental pilots into core operations. Data indicates a significant acceleration in adoption, with 47% of banks having deployed generative AI applications in production by 2025, compared to only 10% two years prior. This transition is driven by the potential for massive profit gains, with McKinsey estimating annual value between $200 billion and $340 billion for the sector.
Value realization is currently concentrated in four primary domains: customer engagement, content synthesis, automated generation, and software development assistance. These areas account for approximately 75% of the value realized to date. Major institutions are already scaling these technologies, such as JPMorgan Chase, which reported over 230,000 active users on its proprietary LLM Suite by late 2025, and Morgan Stanley, which has integrated GPT-4-based assistants for wealth management.
