Generative AI adoption grows in Japanese corporate training and communications

Recent surveys in Japan highlight the growing integration of generative AI in professional environments, specifically regarding new graduate training and business communication.

A study by the Generative AI Association (GUGA) found that 93.5% of companies plan to implement generative AI training for new graduates by 2026. However, most programs are limited to specific departments rather than being company-wide. Current training focuses heavily on AI literacy, risks, and internal rules rather than practical skill application. Companies expressed significant concerns regarding copyright infringement, misinformation, and data leaks. There is also a notable demand for standardized evaluation methods, such as external certifications, to objectively measure AI proficiency.

Separately, research by EnglishHub revealed that 46.8% of professionals have used AI to draft apology letters to external clients or business partners. This usage rate is higher than for internal communications, which stands at 39.7%. The primary drivers for using AI in apologies include a lack of confidence in word choice and the desire to save time. Among management-level employees, the tendency to use AI for external apologies is even more pronounced, with 56.7% reporting such usage.
