Generative AI adoption rises as users rely on chatbots for information

The rapid adoption of generative artificial intelligence is changing how individuals seek information and create content. An AP-NORC survey indicates that 60% of U.S. adults use AI to find answers, a figure that rises to nearly 75% for adults under 30. Federal Reserve research shows that 41% of U.S. workers use generative AI for professional tasks, while 50% use it for personal matters, marking significant year-over-year growth.

As users increasingly turn to models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude instead of traditional search engines, concerns regarding information accuracy and the source of answers have emerged. Different AI models often provide varying responses to the same query because they draw from different data mixes.

In specialized fields such as scuba diving, there are growing concerns that novice users may rely on AI-generated content without professional expertise. This can lead to the spread of misinformation or “AI hallucinations,” where chatbots provide incorrect or potentially dangerous advice that lacks genuine human experience.
