Genetec report: Retailers expand physical security role
A report from Genetec regarding the 2026 State of Physical Security reveals that retailers are expanding the role of physical security beyond traditional loss prevention. Instead, security is increasingly viewed as a business function that supports operational efficiency, employee safety, and modernization efforts.
Key findings indicate that over 60% of retailers aim to use security data to improve operational efficiency, while an equal percentage prioritize safety and security. Additionally, 55% focus on compliance, and 48% utilize security data to enhance the experience for both customers and employees.
Despite interest in artificial intelligence, many retailers face challenges with aging physical and IT infrastructure. Consequently, modernization strategies are often measured; 54% of retailers plan to leverage existing technology to meet new challenges, while 51% intend to use AI to streamline security processes.
