Genetic research identifies biomarkers in leukemia and lymphoma
Recent medical research has provided new insights into the genetic complexities of various lymphomas. In a study involving patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), researchers utilized RNA sequencing to evaluate immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IgHV) mutation status. The study found that unmutated IgHV (u-IgHV) was associated with a higher frequency of first-line therapy requirements and more rapid progression to second-line treatment compared to mutated IgHV. Additionally, the u-IgHV group showed a higher prevalence of Deletion 17p.
Separately, research into diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) has examined the effects of MYC and BCL6 rearrangements. The study identified that these translocations are associated with dysregulated microRNAs and proteins linked to the NF-kB and BCR pathways. These molecular changes are associated with poor treatment response, resistance, and decreased overall survival rates in patients.
