Geneva approves electricity tariff reductions for 2027

The Geneva State Council has approved a reduction in electricity tariffs, effective January 1, 2027. Based on a proposal from the Services industriels de Genève (SIG), the price cuts are attributed to lower energy purchase costs secured during previous years when market rates were more favorable.

The reduction is expected to decrease bills for households and small businesses by approximately 2%, while medium and large companies are projected to see an average decrease of 4%. For a typical household of two to three people consuming 3,000 kWh, the savings are estimated at less than 15 francs per year. Small workshops or offices could save around 135 francs, while medium-sized businesses, such as restaurants, may see reductions exceeding 670 francs.

Despite current upward trends in energy markets due to conflicts in the Middle East, Geneva's rates remain below the Swiss national average. While electricity costs are dropping, transport, distribution, and local community fees remain stable. The decision will not affect remuneration conditions for photovoltaic electricity producers.
