Geneva police rescue exhausted roe deer from Lake Geneva

On August 11, 2026, the Geneva Cantonal Police rescued an exhausted male roe deer from Lake Geneva. The animal was spotted approximately 500 meters from the shore near the Port Tunnel in Cologny.

Two police boats responded to the scene. After several attempts, officers successfully pulled the weakened deer onto a boat. Two officers secured the animal during the transit to the Société Nautique de Genève.

The cantonal wildlife service took over care of the deer upon its arrival on land. The animal was placed in a ventilated wooden transport box and moved to the forests of Jussy. Following a health examination and the application of an ear tag for identification, the deer was released back into its natural habitat. Officials reported that the deer showed no signs of lameness or disorientation despite the physical exertion of swimming in the lake.
