Genie Francis to receive Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award

Genie Francis, known for her long-running role as Laura Spencer on General Hospital, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30. The honor is being presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

Francis first appeared on General Hospital in February 1977 at the age of 14. Her portrayal of Laura became a cultural phenomenon, particularly following the 1981 wedding of her character to Luke Spencer, which drew an estimated 30 million viewers. The upcoming award coincides with a major career milestone, as February 2027 will mark 50 years since her debut on the program.

In a statement, Francis expressed gratitude to NATAS, her colleagues, and the daytime community, describing her career in television as the ‘adventure of a lifetime.’ NATAS President and CEO Adam Sharp also praised Francis for leaving an indelible mark on the daytime television landscape.
