Gençlerbirliği seeks to lift transfer ban amid sanction issues

Gençlerbirliği Club President Haydar Arda Çakmak has announced efforts to lift a FIFA-imposed transfer ban through a specialized mechanism. The ban stems from outstanding financial obligations related to the transfer of Sekou Koita.

Çakmak explained that the club attempted to settle a 220,000 euro installment owed to the Russian club CSKA Moscow. However, the payment process was blocked by a public bank, which cited international sanctions imposed by the United Nations, the European Union, and the United States against Russian entities.

According to Çakmak, the previous management had signed a contract acknowledging that Gençlerbirliği would bear all responsibilities arising from potential banking sanctions. The club is now working to resolve the impasse caused by these international restrictions to restore its ability to make transfers.
