Gennady Zyuganov warns Russia faces loss if war and current course continue
Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, has issued a warning that Russia risks losing if the current political course and the ongoing war continue. Speaking at a press conference following the State Duma elections, Zyuganov called for a ‘center-left turn’ and a return to policies based on ‘justice, friendship, and socialism.’
Zyuganov criticized Russia’s economic performance, noting that while the global economy grows by 3–4% annually, Russia has seen approximately 1% growth over the last 15 years. He also highlighted technological stagnation and rising prices. Furthermore, he pointed to the growth of the Russian oligarch class, stating that the number of billionaires increased from 105 to 155 during the war, with combined assets reaching approximately $700 billion. He accused big business of failing to contribute sufficient taxes and investments to the national economy.
Regarding the election process, Zyuganov alleged irregularities and claimed that Communist Party observers were removed from polling stations. The Russian Central Election Commission confirmed that 15 observers across eight regions were removed following court decisions, citing interference in the activities of election commissions.
