Gennaro Gattuso hired as Lazio head coach amid club turbulence

Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed head coach of Serie A side Lazio, signing a two‑year contract worth €2 million per season. He replaces Maurizio Sarri, who left after a disappointing campaign that saw Lazio finish ninth and miss European competition. The club is dealing with financial constraints and fan protests against owner Claudio Lotito, following the sale of key players such as Taty Castellanos and Matteo Guendouzi.

Gattuso plans to strengthen the squad by adding five new players, with a priority on defense. Lazio are pursuing Croatian defender Sergio Domínguez from Dinamo Zagreb, reportedly offering around €7 million in compensation, as they seek a replacement for departing centre‑back Alessio Romagnoli, who is linked with a move to Al‑Sadd in Qatar.
