Gennaro Gattuso takes charge of Lazio, vows hard work and squad rebuild

Gennaro Gattuso has been presented as the new head coach of SS Lazio. In his introductory press conference he said the club faces “a wound that will remain, now we need to put on the helmet” and stressed that work, patience and sacrifice are essential. He acknowledged limited financial resources, the recent departure of defender Mario Gila, and the need for a central defender while promising to use the modest budget wisely.

Gattuso also unveiled his technical staff, naming match analyst Nicholas Cicchetti, assistants Marco Sangermani, Luigi Riccio and others who will support him through the season. The team began its pre‑season training camp at the Formello facility, with a squad reshuffle that sees several veterans leave and many young players promoted. The club will play six friendly matches before the first official game in the Coppa Italia on 16 August.
