Genoa commemorates 13th anniversary of 2013 Piloti Tower collapse
On May 7, 2024, Genoa held official ceremonies to mark the thirteenth anniversary of the Piloti Tower collapse that occurred on May 7, 2013. The tower fell after the container ship Jolly Nero struck the structure, killing nine port workers.
The program included a Mass of Suffrage at the Port Authority chapel, a wreath‑laying at a dedicated memorial, and the public reading of the victims' names – Daniele Fratantonio, Giovanni Iacoviello, Davide Morella, Marco De Candussio, Giuseppe Tusa, Francesco Cetrola, Michele Robazza, Sergio Basso and Maurizio Potenza. Local officials, families and citizens attended, renewing calls for improved maritime safety and recalling the long legal proceedings that followed the disaster.
