Genoa council approves 5.7% waste tax increase

The Genoa municipal council, backing Mayor Silvia Salis, voted 22‑12 to adopt a resolution raising the city’s waste collection levy (TARI) by an average of 5.7% starting in 2026. The increase will affect households more heavily, while non‑domestic users such as shops and offices will see rises between 3.6% and 4.2% depending on category. Payments for non‑domestic users will shift from four to five installments covering April through August. The council also approved the creation of a semi‑annual forum, beginning November 2026, to bring together businesses and trade associations on waste‑management issues. Opposition parties argued for a six‑installment plan and sought to exempt commercial users from the December 16 payment deadline, but their proposals were rejected.
