Genoa council approves new Quinto water polo natatorium

The Genoa municipal council approved a plan to convert the former Tiro al Volo site in Piazza De Simoni into a new natatorium dedicated primarily to water polo. The project, presented by Mayor Silvia Salis, aims to create a regulation‑size pool and supporting facilities that meet the standards of the Italian Swimming Federation, allowing the venue to host national‑level competitions and serve local clubs and youth programs.

The federation has pledged technical assistance for design and construction, and may take part in future management. Coaches Sandro Campagna, technical commissioner of the Italian men’s water polo team, and Luca Bittarello of Iren Genova Quinto praised the initiative, calling the new pool an “iconic” and essential asset for talent development and community health in the Levante area.
