Genoa highlighted by Wall Street Journal as a key Italian Grand Tour destination
The Wall Street Journal has highlighted Genoa as a vital destination for a contemporary ‘Grand Tour’ of Italy. The publication praised the city for its austere historic palaces, lavish interiors, rich churches, and unique gastronomy, noting that it offers a less crowded alternative to major art hubs like Rome and Florence.
Local officials have welcomed the international recognition. Mayor Silvia Salis described the coverage as an important acknowledgment of the city’s unique character, which allows visitors to experience a slower pace. Giacomo Montanari, the Councilor for Culture, specifically noted the inclusion of the Staglieno monumental cemetery as an international excellence. He emphasized that the city’s museums, monuments, and Baroque decorations, such as those found in the Church of San Luca, continue to surprise visitors. The city plans to further showcase its heritage during the Rolli Days from October 16 to 18.
